wish list??

listen to... mothertongue

lately i've been listening to the newest cd of compositions by nico muhly called 'mothertongue.' he's a contemporary classical composer but has also collaborated with a handful of more rock/indie-minded folk. it's easy to hear that muhly draws inspiration from a variety of sources. his sound sampling and analog electronics bring to mind work by john cage, and his trance-like repetitive textures reference some of the more abstract choral work of philip glass. at the same time, his ear for melody makes his compositions more contemporary than those oldies. he uses melody and texture that can be appreciated by anyone.

whatever, this stuff is blowing my mind. it's abstract and inspiring at the same time - original, yet totally familiar. do what you can to get a copy of it.
